 Bright Star was a comedy drama broadcast from 1952 to 1953, lasting only one season. Irene Dunne played Susan Armstrong and Fred MacMurray as George Harvey. Susan and Fred both work for the Hillsdale Morning Star, a local newspaper in which Susan was the editor and the owner who inherited it from her father while George, the paper's star reporter. Both Dunne and MacMurray were celebrated film stars before entering the show cast. Because of their fame, the show took advantage of their celebrity status and frequently referred to the show as the Irene Dunne and Fred MacMurray Show. |

Bright Star features the battle between Susan and Fred, both single. Fred is a charming, eligible bachelor and competent reporter in the editorial office. George tolerates his high-handed employer Susan well. They seem to be attracted to each other, but can't help bickering with each other. Susan, although bossy, understands George's value and contribution to the paper. She frequently defers to George in order to keep George on his post. Their rocky relationship swings between love and hate, but the mutual attraction keeps the game going. |
